XA167 - X Weight Poly/Cotton (Cloth Backing), Aluminum Oxide, Closed Coating, Red Color for Hardwood Applications.

XA167 poly/cotton (cloth-backed) abrasive is more durable and tear resistant, and typically more expensive than paper backed abrasives, but will last longer and can withstand continual bending and flexing during use. While coarser grits are best suited for stock removal, the finer grits are ideal for finishing of raw wood and metal. One of the most popular and versatile materials, as it handles wood and metal with equal ease. They heavy X-weight backing allows for high cutting performance and provides an excellent finish for a wide range of applications.

Available grits: #40, #50, #60, #80, #100, #120, #150, #180, #220, #240, #320, #400

Best case applications

  • Tougher Softwoods, Hardwoods, Veneer, Polyester, Lacquer/Sealer Woodworking
  • Wide Belts
  • Narrow Belts
  • High stock removal
  • Hard surfaces
  • Hand sanding
  • Finishing applications like lacquers and sealers, as it provides a more uniform scratch pattern and a better-quality finish
  • Applications that require a flexible abrasive that won't tear

Advantages

  • Heavy duty cloth backing
  • Closed coats work better for hardwoods
  • Tear resistant
  • Less expensive cloth backing alternative

Disadvantages

  • More expensive than paper
  • Closed coats do not work well for softwoods due to clogging

Comparison

XA167 is similar to RKXO, however XA167 is slightly more affordable, and it is a closed-coat that would work well for hardwoods and less on softwoods than the RKXO semi-open coated belt material would.
